Meet Your Instructor

Hi, I’m Sonal and I teach Indian Semiclassical dance based on Kathak, and Bollywood dance— 2 styles that I have fallen in love with. I started dancing over 20 years ago, exploring many styles along the way— Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Belly Dance, Ballroom, and more, but it was Kathak that truly rooted me. I hold a Diploma in Kathak from ABGMV, awarded with distinction. Along the way I have had the honor of training under some incredible teachers. I currently learn from Sakshi_ji, a disciple of Kavitha Thakur (who trained under Padma Vibhushan Pt Birju Maharaj ji) and have also studied under Kiran ji, a disciple of Birju Maharaj ji.

I believe dance is most beautiful when it reflects your unique personality, so I focus on creating a supportive space where you feel free to explore your own style, while building a strong technical foundation. All the techniques and moves are broken down step by step, and a mix of visual demonstration, verbal cues, and personalized feedback is used, that empowers students to dance with grace and confidence.

What I love most about teaching is that magical “aha” moment — when the movements click, the music makes sense, and students begin to truly enjoy themselves. And even more, I treasure those times when a group moves together in harmony — many bodies dancing as one, dissolving into rhythm and expression.

My experience in different western and international dance styles, help me bring structure and creativity into my teaching, especially for students who are used to Western learning styles.

Most of all, I hope to build a dance community — one where beginners and amateurs feel welcomed, supported, and inspired to grow. Whether you're dancing for joy, for fitness, or just to try something new — I’m here to guide you every step of the way.
